Episode 100

New Year, New Garden

Part Two

Continuing the discussion from last week on New Year, New Garden, Nathan discusses more detailed areas of the garden with new ideas to try. How do you feel about adding some topiary into the landscape? Remember, topiary is that style of pruning that forms plants into unnatural shapes, both geometric and abstract. Nathan talks about some of the most common shapes and some of the easiest: boxes, spheres and domes, pyramids, cones, spiral, animals, and cloud pruning. Adding a topiary or two to the garden will provide something interesting and NEW! Lastly, Nathan explains what to think about when adding a new perennial border to the landscape. First of all, think of the design. Use large plants to the back and smaller plants to the front. Nathan lists some of his favorite perennials of various heights that you can use to create a new perennial border this year! Join New Southern Garden next week for more new garden ideas for this new year!
