Ep. 221- Horticultural History: Liberty Hyde Bailey
This week, Nathan takes a look back at the people and practices of horticultural history. Liberty Hyde Bailey (1858-1954) was a plantsman, gardener, agricultural college professor and dean, and a promoter of the rural lifestyle. Through his numerous books, articles, and other writings, he has left behind a treasure trove of information. Nathan discusses a few entries found in Bailey's 'The Horticulturist's Rule-Book' (1899) and takes a look at some interesting, but some times shocking, ways of dealing with garden pests. Perhaps by utilizing our 21st Century knowledge, we can employ a bit of these late 19th Century techniques in our gardens today.
